His company, Sycamore Entertainment, specializes in acquiring, financing, and distributing feature-length films with a focus on promoting diversity, inclusion, and social impact.

Born and raised in Toronto, Sylvan’s early career was rooted in finance. He studied Economics and Political Science at York University and initially worked in the financial sector on Bay Street, Canada’s equivalent to Wall Street. His expertise in equities trading, mergers, and acquisitions provided him with a solid foundation to transition into the film industry, where he recognized a need for better financing solutions for independent filmmakers, particularly those from underrepresented communities

In 2010, Sylvan co-founded Sycamore Entertainment Group with a mission to support independent filmmakers and promote diverse storytelling. The company quickly gained recognition for acquiring films like The Eye of the Storm, an award-winning project.

Under the leadership of Edward Sylvan, Sycamore expanded its focus to digital streaming, launching SEGI TV in 2020. SEGI TV is an OTT (over-the-top) streaming platform designed to offer multicultural content that aligns with values of equality, sustainability, and community. It stands out as a socially conscious alternative in the crowded streaming market, providing a platform for diverse voices and independent creators.
